After reading Once Upon A Christmas, which I loved, I discovered that The Nobody is the prequel to that Christmas story, so naturally I could not resist re-reading it. It had been long enough ago that I forgot many details, which is good, because, well - it's always nice to still have surprises awaiting, even in a re-read.The Nobody did not hold me quite as well as Once Upon A Christmas, but honestly, I believe it is Ms. Farr's first novel, and looking at it that way, it's really quite superb.
There are plenty of summaries already, but basically this is the story of two people who fall in love, sight unseen. They meet in the dark, in a stressful and surprising circumstance, but they cannot just brush off the encounter and the way it has affected their hearts. Of course, neither knows what the other is thinking, and once they do figure things out, there is a lot standing in the way to their HEA. The H does the right thing, which is the difficult thing, and I like him all the better for it.
Meanwhile, we get a good look at some of the characters featured in the Christmas sequel, a splendid read.
Read them both - they are really, really worth it!

I must commend Ms Farr on a truly excellent regency. It is very hard to carry off a serious murder subplot in an otherwise light-hearted regency romance novel. But this subplot was handled with aplomb and I have to confess that I was duped right along with the characters until the final twist. Rather masterfully done. I would have liked a little more suspense in the romance but I dare say the author could probably not force them apart on the page anymore than the secondary characters themselves were able to come between them. Our Hero is wonderful and I very much approve of him. But Ned completely stole the show. The Captain was a worthy gentleman as well but I would have liked him to have a tad more sensitivity toward Serena than he showed. In all honesty, I don't think we saw enough of the hero in the book. There were so many other characters and they were all so engaging and fun that they all had to have a little of the lime-light. Our heroine was lovely even as I found myself preferring Serena as a character. I sympathized with Caitie and her situation and while I understand that her behavior was severely limited according to society, I expected her to fight for what she wanted and for what she knew to be hers. I kept waiting for her to drive back to London and meet the rest of them on the way to save the hero. She would have been out of her mind with fear but would have acquit herself bravely showing a sharp contrast to her rival. Sadly that did not happen and I find the end a little lacking for it. But still, an excellent read nonetheless. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
I give this book 4.5 stars. It is the most I have ever given a book. I found this book charming. I could connect with the characters. I loved the sisters Caitlin and Emily's relationship. I found Serena to be a great friend. Loved Ned s charm and wit. Lord Kilverin was a total tease. Great story..
I would recommend this book.
I'm surprised at the number of low reviews for this book because for once I don't agree with them. I found this to be a fun romance and an easy read. I liked the way the H fell for the h so quickly but was in a sticky situation because he was already engaged to be married - with a wedding date looming in the near future. It was very difficult to see how it was all going to work out for the main characters because the H's fiancee is a Duke's daughter and she is not willing to let him go. Our h is basically a nobody (hence the title) with no dowry and nothing to really recommend her so the path to true love definitely wasn't smooth.
I really enjoyed the romance in the story. It reminds me a lot of Eleanor and Edward from "Sense and Sensibility". It's all about people in love, who can't be together and it really touched me. It was a different type of love triangle. I really felt for the hero and heroine as they pined for one another. And I liked the other woman (the hero's fiance). Not as a person, but as a character. She's terrible and uptight, but she's not evil or a bad person, per se. She's painted to be the villain, but she's not villainous; she's just a product of her time and upbringing. Even when she's rude to those around her, she's not over-the-top. She simply is an arrogant know-it-all who clings to decorum and station to an annoying level. It would have been easy for the author to make her a farce or catty stereotype, but instead I found myself enjoying a character who is a different type of villain--one who is villainous, simply because she stands in the way of the hero and heroine getting together. She's not evil, she's just in the way.
However, it did drop the ball in one major aspect. The story just couldn't help itself. It wasn't enough to have a great drama circulating around wanting what you can't have and trying to hold to honor and duty, while wanting something else. So, it threw in a ridiculous attempted murder plot. It's not a massive part of the plot (though it does play a part in how the hero and heroine meet in the first place), but it seemed unnecessary and frankly ruined the story just a little for me. It really served little to no purpose to the main story line and really threw the story from a great character driven romantic drama to a melodrama.
Overall, a sweet read and entertaining, but there was a lot that could have been cut out of the story, which would have allowed more time to develop the romance between the main characters.
